Battle stat estimates (Beta)
Torning's own estimate of a player's battle stats: where it shows, what each grade means, what it is built from, how spies stay private, and the free lookup tool.
What it is
Torning works out its own estimate of a player's total battle stats (strength, defence, speed and dexterity added together). It is an estimate, not a figure from Torn: Torn never publishes another player's stats.
Estimates are in Beta. Torning is still learning how far to trust each kind of evidence, so a figure can move as more readings come in, and the way it is worked out may change. Each estimate carries a grade that says how sure it is, and you should read it as a guide, not a promise of how a fight will go.
Where it shows
- War › Targets: the Est. column beside every player on your targets list. Free for every signed-in player.
- War › Intel › War intel: the Est. column beside every enemy, and in the battle stat comparison where no spy or shared stats exist. War intel is part of Ultra.
- Events › Elimination: the target board uses an estimate where you have no spy on a player.
- The free Battle stat estimates tool on the Torning website, open to anyone without an account.
The Est. column shows a short total and its grade, with a Beta tag on the column heading. Hover or tap the figure for the exact number, the likely range, the grade, what it was built from and when it was worked out. A total starting with ≥ is only a floor: the player has at least that much and could have a lot more.
A player with no estimate yet shows Working out once Torning has queued them, and the figure appears on a later refresh. When a page shows a player whose estimate is more than 7 days old, Torning works it out again in the background.
What the grades mean
| Grade | Label | Built from |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | Verified Spy | A spy under 30 days old that you can see. |
| A | High Confidence | The middle of recent fair fight readings that were not capped. |
| B | Good Estimate | Fair fight readings that hit the cap, so they only show a floor, topped up by other evidence. |
| C | Moderate | Public activity counters, a rank bracket, an older spy with a learned growth factor, or, when nothing better exists, FFScouter's estimate with Torning's correction applied. |
| D | Broad Estimate | Only a floor: an old spy, or the top rank bracket, which has no ceiling. |
A player Torning knows nothing useful about is never shown with a figure.
What it is built from
- Fair fight readings: when members attack a player, the fair fight Torn gives them says how strong that player is next to the attacker. Every attack synced by a member adds a reading.
- Public activity counters: public personal stats such as Xanax taken, energy refills, energy drinks and attacks made, read through the Torn API, which show how much energy a player has had to train with.
- Rank: a player's rank, level, crimes and networth together set a range their stats must sit in.
- Spies: only the spies you are allowed to see (see the next section).
Torning also learns a correction for each kind of evidence by checking its estimates against spies and against outside estimates from YATA and FFScouter. YATA's figure only teaches the correction. FFScouter's figure is used as evidence only when there is no spy and no fair fight reading, and Torning's correction is applied to it. The public tool never uses either.
Spies stay private
A spy's figure only ever shows to the member who took it and to the faction it is shared with (including a family spy pool, when the family has one). Nobody else sees it, inside Torning or on the public tool.
When the best estimate on a player comes from a spy you cannot see, you get Torning's open estimate instead: the same evidence with every spy and every outside estimate left out. It may be broader or lower graded than what the spy's faction sees, or there may be none yet.
Hit?
Beside the Est. column, Hit? compares a player's estimate with your own total. It shows only when you have turned on Battle Stats Insights and your stats have synced, and it reads only your own stats.
- Easy: under half your total.
- Likely: up to 85% of your total.
- Close: up to 115% of your total.
- Risky: above that.
These bands are Torning's own guide, not a Torn figure. A real fight also turns on how stats are spread, weapons, armour and perks. The tooltip shows the fair fight Torn would likely give you, worked out from both totals.
The free lookup tool
Open Tools on the Torning website and choose Battle stat estimates under War and chains. No account or API key is needed.
- Type a Torn ID, or the start of a player's name (two characters or more).
- Choose a player from the list.
- Read the estimated total, the likely range, the grade, what it was built from and when it was worked out.
The tool always shows the open estimate, so it never uses a spy or an outside estimate. It lists only players Torning has already estimated and fetches nothing for you. A player who has not come up in members' wars and attacks yet shows No public estimate yet.
