Faction recruiting
Find players for your faction: search everyone active on Torn, keep a shared shortlist, read applications, build recruitment messages, get a daily alert for new matches, and list yourself as looking for a faction.
Who can use it
Faction › Recruiting needs a leader or co-leader of your faction to have Ultra, and starts switched off. A leader turns on Recruiting under Features on Faction › Settings › Manage, and can turn it off the same way. Your shortlist and messages are kept while it is off. It then works for everyone your leaders allow, on five tabs: Find players, Shortlist, Applications, Messages and Alerts.
Leaders and co-leaders always have full access. For anyone else, a leader sets two permissions for each position on Faction › Settings › Manage:
- View recruiting shows all five tabs, read only.
- Manage recruiting adds messaging players, changing the shortlist, saving messages and saving searches. It includes View recruiting.
Neither is on for members by default, because the shortlist and its notes are private to your recruiters. Changes made here show in your faction's audit log.
Find players
Find players searches every player active on Torn in the last 30 days, refreshed once a day. Your own members are left out, and so are players in federal jail.
Search by name or Torn ID, then filter by:
- Faction: no faction, or in a faction.
- Donator status: donator or subscriber, subscriber, donator, neither, or unknown.
- Active within 1, 3, 7 or 30 days. It starts on 3 days.
- Battle stat estimate, Xanax taken, Energy refills and Attacks won.
- Days played, Days old, Rank, Crimes and Networth.
- Company and Company stars, at most.
The list is built from Torn's daily player file and what Torning already holds, so some figures lag. Donator status can be up to 30 days old, and a player's faction can be up to a week old when the daily file does not cover them. Where Torning does not know a player's status it shows Unknown, never Neither. A faction Torning has not read shows as In a faction.
Turn on Hide players on our shortlist to see only people nobody has saved yet.
Messaging a player
Torning never sends anything on Torn. There is no bulk send and no way to message more than one player at a time.
- Press Message beside a player and pick one of your faction's Torn mail messages.
- If someone has already contacted them, Torning says who and when, so you do not message them twice.
- Press Copy and open Torn. Torning copies the message with their name filled in and opens Torn's compose page for that player.
- Paste it, then press Send on Torn yourself.
Torning adds the player to your shortlist as Contacted when you press the button, whether or not you go on to send it.
Shortlist
Shortlist is one list shared by your faction's recruiters, with a bar showing how it divides by status: Saved, Contacted, Replied, Joined and Declined.
Save a player from Find players, Applications or the Looking for a faction list. Message moves them from Saved to Contacted, and they turn Joined by themselves once they appear on your roster. You set the rest yourself, and can add a note that only your recruiters see.
Applications
Applications lists the applications waiting on your faction, read from Torn every 15 minutes, beside what Torning knows about each player: level, activity, stat estimate and donator status.
You accept or decline on Torn. Open Torn's applications page takes you there, and nothing here changes anything on Torn.
Torn shows applications only to a key with faction API access. If your faction has none, the tab says so.
Messages
Messages holds the letters your recruiters share. Start one from First contact, Forum advert or Discord advert, and it opens in the same editor as the Newsletter Wizard.
Each message has a kind: Torn mail, Forum advert or Discord. Only Torn mail messages are offered when you message a player. Write {name} where the player's name should go.
Each message shows how many times it was used, and how many players it brought in once they joined.
Saved searches and alerts
Set your filters on Find players and press Save this search. A faction can keep 10. They are listed on Alerts, where you can switch one on or off, or delete it.
Torning checks each search once a day, after the player list refreshes. New means a player the search has never matched before, so the first check only notes who already matches, and you hear nothing that day. Turning a search off and on again starts it afresh. Your own members and players on your shortlist are never reported.
When a search finds someone new, everyone with Manage recruiting gets one message in their Alerts bell. To post it to Discord too, tick Also post to Discord when you save the search, and set a channel for New recruiting matches on Faction › Settings › Discord.
Looking for a faction
Any player can list themselves for free on Account › Looking for a faction. Turn on List me as looking for a faction, choose what you want (Chains, Ranked wars, Organised crime, Mentoring, Payouts) and add a note of up to 200 characters.
Recruiters in other factions with Ultra then see your name, level, stat estimate, donator status, what you want and your note, above their search on Find players, and can message you on Torn. Your own faction's recruiters do not see your listing.
Turn it off at any time and you are removed straight away. Turning off Looking for a faction on Account › Data sharing does the same.
