Flights and the travel planner

by liharris30 pro discord travel flights

How to use the Flights area to find the most profitable trips abroad, follow your own flight, forecast restocks and plan a whole run of trips. For any player who flies to buy and sell foreign items.

What Flights is for

Flights is Torning's take on Torn's travel agency, with the numbers Torn leaves out: what each destination's shelf earns per trip and per hour in the air, where your own plane is, and when items are likely to come back in stock.

It has two pages:

  • Flights › Overview: the travel map, profit per trip and per hour for every country and plane, foreign stock, your own flight and the landing alarm. The Restocks forecast view on this page needs Pro.
  • Flights › Planner (Pro): builds the most profitable run of trips inside a time window you choose, and prices every item in every country as one trip on your own plane, capacity, cash and sell prices.

Foreign stock comes from YATA's crowdsourced travel export. If YATA can't be reached, a notice says so: stock and profit go missing for a while, but flight times still work.

On a phone, Flights sits under More in the bottom bar.

Picking a plane

Both pages have a plane switch at the top: Standard, Airstrip, Private and Business. Each one changes flight times and how many items you carry, and every figure on the page follows it.

  • The page opens on the plane you last flew, which Torning reads from Torn with your own API key.
  • Carry capacity starts from the plane's base (10 items on Standard, 15 on the others). Any extra capacity your perks give on the plane you last flew is added to every other plane too.
  • On the overview, the switch only changes what you are looking at. On the planner, the plane you pick is saved as part of your plan settings.

The travel map

The World map card on Flights › Overview shows all eleven destinations and Torn City.

  • Each marker (and the country's shape, where the map has one) is tinted by profit per hour for the plane you picked. The deeper the tint, the better the trip.
  • Hover a marker to see the city, the one-way flight time, the profit per hour and the best buy there.
  • Click a marker to open that country's shelf in the Foreign stock card.

If you are in the air, your flight is drawn on the map as a dashed line between Torn and the other country, with a small plane that moves along it as the flight goes on.

Profit per trip and per hour

The Profit per hour card ranks every destination for the plane you picked, best first.

  • Each row shows the country, its profit per hour and the one-way flight time. Hover a row to see the best item and what one full trip of it makes.
  • Profit per hour is the best item's profit per trip divided by the round trip (there and back).
  • Click a row to open that country's shelf.

Profit is worked out after Torn's 5% Item Market fee, for as many items as your plane carries (or as many as are left on the shelf, if that is fewer). Flight times here leave out the 25% cut from the travel book.

Foreign stock

Pick a destination on the map, in the ranking or from the Pick a destination list to see its shelf. The card header says how long ago YATA last updated it.

  • Three tiles show the Flight time, how many items you are Carrying, and the Per hour figure for the best item.
  • Below them, each item on the shelf is a bar showing its profit per trip, scaled against the best item. The badge shows how many are left, and hovering a row shows the buy price and what it sells for after the market fee.
  • Items that lose money show as negative bars.

Your flight and travel status

When you are flying or abroad, a Travel card on the overview shows where you are going.

  • While flying: a countdown to landing and a progress bar from the time you left to the time you land, both in the clock you have on.
  • While abroad: a note that you are in another country, as a reminder to fly home before anything back in Torn opens up again.

You don't need to press anything to refresh your travel status. Each time you open Flights › Overview or Flights › Planner, Torning asks Torn for your current flight with your own API key. If Torn can't be reached, the page uses the last flight it stored.

The landing alarm

The Landing alarm card has the Discord bot message you when your flight lands, so you can buy or sell straight away.

  1. Turn on the Personal Alerts consent if the card asks for it.
  2. Make sure your Discord account is linked. If the bot hasn't seen you yet, the card says so: link Discord on your Torn account and send the bot any message once.
  3. Switch on Flight landed.
  4. Optionally set a Custom trigger to be warned ahead of landing, for example 2m (two minutes before) or 90% (90% of the way through the flight). Leave it empty to be told when you land.

This is the same Flight landed reminder you'll find under Account › Discord, and the same one /travel alarm sets, so changing it in one place changes it everywhere.

Restocks forecast (Pro)

The Foreign stock card has two views: Shelf (profit per trip) and Restocks. Restocks needs Pro; without it the view shows as locked.

Torning records every country's shelf once a minute from YATA's reports and learns how each item sells out and comes back. Pick a country and switch to Restocks to see a table with one row per item:

ColumnWhat it shows
ItemThe item and how many are left, or how long it has been sold out (a + means at least that long).
Next changeWhen the item is next likely to sell out or come back, in the clock you have on, with a confidence badge and a bar. The bar's fill is the likely window and the tick the most likely time.
Land in ...The chance the item is in stock when you land if you leave now on the plane you picked.
You land ...Only while you are flying to that country: the chance it is in stock when your current flight lands.
Restocks by hourA 24-hour strip of when restocks have been seen, in your clock, with the current hour marked.

Reading the forecast

  • Headlines read like Back ~14:20 or Sells out ~14:20, Any minute, or Back in over a day. A line under it gives the likely window, such as "Likely 14:10 to 14:40".
  • Overdue means the item has been sold out longer than nearly every wait on record, so history can't say when it returns.
  • Not selling means it is in stock and barely moving.
  • Learning means there isn't enough history for that item yet. A brand new shelf shows "Learning this shelf" until a few restocks have been seen.
  • Confidence is Low, Medium or High, depending on how many past cases looked like this one.
  • Landing chances are rounded to the nearest 5% and never shown as certain: the extremes read <5% and >95%. Green is likely, amber is a toss-up, red is unlikely.

Rows are ordered so the useful ones come first: sold-out items with a forecast (soonest back at the top), then overdue items, then stocked items soonest to sell out.

If a country hasn't been reported for a while, a notice says how old its last report is, and its forecasts are put on hold until YATA hears from it again.

The travel planner (Pro)

Flights › Planner works out the run of trips that earns the most inside your time window, and lists every item in every country as one trip. Without Pro you'll see a Plan every flight with Pro card with a See what Pro includes button instead.

Each trip buys the best thing on the shelf when you land, weighed by the chance it is still there, and the next best thing if it is gone. Where a shelf has little history, the planner takes it as it is now.

Everything in Plan settings is saved to your account as soon as you change it, and the plan rebuilds straight away. A value outside the allowed range is corrected and shown back to you.

Plan settings

Plane and capacity

SettingWhat it does
Plane switch (top of page)The plane every trip is flown on. Starts on the plane you last flew.
Items per tripHow many items one trip carries, from 1 to 100. Leave it empty to use the capacity from your perks (shown as the placeholder).
Extra flower slotsExtra flowers the Flower Shop perk lets you carry, 0 to 10. Torning can't read this from your perks, so enter it yourself.
Extra plushie slotsExtra plushies the Toy Shop perk lets you carry, 0 to 10. Enter it yourself, as with flowers.
Travel book (a quarter off flights)Turn on if you have read the travel book, so flights are planned a quarter shorter.

Schedule

SettingWhat it does
StartWhen your window opens. Press Now to clear it and start from now.
EndWhen your window closes. Leave it empty and the plan runs for the number of hours shown in the label. An end earlier than the start runs past midnight.
Minutes to buy or sell each landingTime you spend at each end of a trip before flying again, 0 to 30. Defaults to 2.
End the planHome: back in Torn with everything sold when the window closes. Abroad: the last trip lands abroad with a load bought, for you to fly home and sell after the window (overnight, say).
Rehab in Switzerland firstMakes the first trip a flight to Switzerland. If there isn't time for it, a note says how long Switzerland and back takes.

What to buy

SettingWhat it does
CategoriesLimit the main load to certain item types (for example Plushie or Flower). Pick none to allow every type.
Skip countriesCountries the plan never flies to.
Most cash per tripThe most you want to spend on one trip. Leave it empty (or 0) for no limit.

Stock, bars and drugs

SettingWhat it does
Plan with the restock forecastOn by default. Weighs each trip by the chance its items are on the shelf when you land. Off, the planner takes every shelf as it is right now.
Energy you'll wasteThe most energy you are willing to lose to a full bar. Your bars are taken as spent before each flight, so a trip long enough to refill energy past its maximum by more than this is dropped. Empty means any amount.
Nerve you'll wasteThe same, for nerve.
Be home when my drug cooldown endsNo trip keeps you away from Torn when your drug cooldown runs out, so you can take your next dose. Later doses are planned once you have taken it.

Ticket prices are left out of every profit figure.

Window times and the clock

The Start and End times are read in whichever clock the top bar's TCT / Local switch is on when you type them. Torning remembers which clock that was.

  • Switching the clock later only changes how the times are shown. The window stays the same real moment: a window typed as 18:00 TCT shows as the matching local time when you switch to Local, and the plan does not move.
  • If you change one of the times, both are then kept in the clock you are on now, so the window stays in one piece.
  • Every time in the itinerary (leave, land, home) is shown in the clock you have on.

If you set a start time, the plan uses the next window that hasn't finished yet. If you are inside it already, the plan starts now.

Reading the plan

The Itinerary card's header shows your window, for example "18:00 to 02:00".

  • Expected profit: what the trips should make, each weighed by the chance its items are on the shelf when you land.
  • Per hour: the expected profit over the whole window.
  • Trips: how many flights the plan makes.
  • A bar shows how the window is spent: Flying, Abroad, Home between trips and After the last trip.

Then each trip is listed in order:

  • A number, the country, and the times: "Leave ... · land ... · home ...".
  • What to buy, such as "19 × Camel Plushie", with a Flower slots or Plushie slots badge for the extra slots, and the chance it is in stock when you land.
  • "If gone:" lists what to buy instead if the main item has sold out.
  • On the right, the expected profit and the cash you need to take ("Needs ...").
  • A Rehab badge (numbered R) marks the Switzerland trip, and Last flight out marks a final trip that ends abroad.
  • "Wait ..." rows show when it pays to stay home before the next trip, for example while a shelf restocks.
  • With the drug option on, a row marks when your drug cooldown ends and you should take your next dose in Torn.

Notes and empty plans

  • If you are abroad or on your way out when you open the planner, the plan starts when you are next home, and a note says so. If you are flying home, it starts when you land.
  • If you won't be home before the window closes, there is no plan for that window.
  • "No trip fits this window" means even the shortest trip is too long. Try a longer window or a faster plane.
  • "Nothing on any shelf pays for a trip in this window" means no trip would make a profit.
  • If you set a waste limit or the drug option and Torning can't read that bar or cooldown yet, a note tells you that part is switched off for now.

Every item, every country

Below the itinerary, this table prices one full trip of every item in every country, on your plane, capacity, cash cap and sell prices. It is sorted by profit per hour, best first.

ColumnWhat it shows
ItemThe item and its type.
CountryWhere it is sold.
FlightOne way, on your plane.
StockHow many are on the shelf, or Sold out.
On landingThe chance it is on the shelf if you leave now. Only shown with the restock forecast on.
Sells atEach, after the market fee, or your own price.
CashTo fill the suitcase, or Over your cash cap.
Trip profitWhat one trip makes, weighed by the landing chance where the forecast can say.
Per hourOver the round trip, including your buy or sell minutes at each end. The bar is relative to the best trip.
ReturnProfit on the cash put in.

You can search by item name, sort by most columns, and filter by Country and Category.

Your own sell prices

If you sell somewhere that pays more than the Item Market (your bazaar or a trade, say), click a price in the Sells at column and type what you get. Your own price is used as is, with no market fee taken off, and is marked Yours.

  • The Your sell prices card lists every price you have set. Edit one there, or empty it to go back to the market value.
  • You can keep up to 100 sell prices.
  • Your prices are used in the itinerary as well as the table.

Bars, cooldowns and travel

The planner keeps itself up to date when you open it, using your own API key:

  • Your current flight is always refreshed, so the plan knows when you are next home.
  • Your energy and nerve bars are refreshed when you have set an energy or nerve waste limit, and again when you change one.
  • Your drug cooldown is refreshed when Be home when my drug cooldown ends is on, and again when you turn it on.

To pick up a change in Torn (you just landed, or took a drug), reload the page.

Tips

  • A big margin on a few items is often worth less than a thin margin on a full suitcase. That is why trips are ranked by profit per trip and per hour, not by margin.
  • Forecasts are built from reports a minute apart, so a sell-out shorter than a minute can be missed. Busy items can come back sooner than shown.
  • Check the Land in ... column in the Restocks view before you fly: it shows the chance each item is still there when you land on your plane if you leave now.
  • The Restocks by hour strip shows when an item tends to restock in your day. Use it to time trips for items that sell out fast.
  • The planner doesn't know how much cash you have on hand. Set Most cash per trip to keep every trip within what you can spend.
  • If your perk capacity looks wrong, set Items per trip yourself.

Discord commands

CommandWhat it does
/travel stockShows a country's foreign stock with cost, sell price after the 5% fee, profit per item and per trip, for up to 10 items. country is optional and defaults to the country you are flying to. capacity (1 to 200) is optional and defaults to what your perks and plane allow, or 10. If it includes your own landing time, only you see the reply.
/travel etaShows where you are flying and when you touch down.
/travel alarmArms the landing alarm for your flight. minutes (1 to 60, default 5) sets how long before landing the DM arrives. It turns on the Personal Alerts consent if needed and stays on for future flights. Turn it off with /alerts disable or the Landing alarm card.
/stakeout itemDMs you when an item abroad restocks. name is the item. destination is optional: leave it empty to watch every country that sells it. stock_min waits for at least that many on the shelf. margin_min only alerts when the margin after the market fee is at least that percent.

An item stakeout sends one message per restock: it fires when the condition comes true and doesn't fire again until it has stopped being true. You can keep up to 25 item stakeouts. See them with /stakeout list, remove one with /stakeout remove-item (this removes that item in every country), or manage them on Account › Discord under Watches. Item stakeouts need your Discord account linked to Torning.
