Torn events and the egg hunt
How Torning dresses up for Torn events, and how to find the eggs that give free Pro and Ultra hours.
Torning dresses up for Torn events
While one of Torn's events runs, Torning changes its look to match: its colours, a background pattern, the font of page headings, the shape of corners, a decoration on every card, art in every page header (beside its buttons when it has them), a glow of the event's colour down the top of each page, a costume for the logo, its own icons for each area in the menu (a haunted house for Home and a skull for War at Halloween, for example) and something drifting behind the page. No two events look alike. A strip under the top bar shows the event's name, what it changes in Torn, which day of it you are on and when it ends.
The public website dresses up too. The header gets an edge to match the event, sections meet in its shape, the footer gets a skyline, and the top of each page shows the event's scene. On the home page the scene takes the place of the live preview for the day.
Torning themes 20 events: Awareness Week, Weekend Road Trip, Valentine's Day, Employee Appreciation Day, Easter Egg Hunt, 420 Day, Museum Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Population Day, World Tiger Day, International Beer Day, Elimination, World Tourism Day, CaffeineCon, Halloween (Trick or Treat), World Diabetes Day, Torn Anniversary, Black Friday, Slash Wednesday and Christmas Town.
The dates come from Torn's own calendar. Most events run on a start time each player picks between 10:00 and 16:00 TCT, so Torning shows the theme from the earliest start to the latest, which can be a few hours either side of yours.
Some of it is there to play with:
- Each scene on the website has a toy, and a line on the scene says how to play: light the pumpkins at Halloween, blow out the candles on Torn's birthday cake, grab a $1 deal on Black Friday, shake the snow globe in Christmas Town. They are just for fun and win nothing.
- Tap the drifting snow, bubbles, bats or hearts in the space between cards to pop them. They drift back in a few seconds later.
- Hover over the logo, or tap it, and its costume does a trick: the witch hat spins, the Santa hat jingles, the bunny ears flop.
- Hover over a page header to wake its art, and tap a piece of it to see what it does. Phones don't show header art.
During an event the strip also shows how many of the day's eggs players have found across Torning. In the last 3 days before a themed event starts, it says what is coming next and when, in that event's colours.
If your device is set to reduce motion, the falling snow, bubbles and other moving art stay still, and the pops and tricks don't play. The website's toys still work, without the movement in between.
Finding eggs
During an event, eggs hide on Torning's pages. Each event has its own egg: wrapped candy at Halloween, an energy drink at CaffeineCon, a present in Christmas Town, and so on.
- An egg hides behind the edge of a card or page header, with only part of it peeking out. Move your pointer close and it edges out. Select it to collect it, and it goes into your inventory.
- On a phone or tablet an egg peeks out a little further and wiggles now and then. With a keyboard, tabbing to an egg brings it all the way out.
- Once an egg shows on your page it waits for you for a few minutes. If you don't collect it in time, it goes back for another player.
- You can find one egg per TCT day unless Torning raises the limit during an event. The strip under the top bar says Today's egg: still hidden until you find it, then Today's egg: found. With a higher limit it counts your finds instead, such as Today's eggs: 2 of 5 found. More eggs hide from 00:00 TCT.
- Reloading pages quickly doesn't help: each player gets a fresh chance at most once a minute.
- Eggs go out across Torning all through each day, so there is no point waiting up at midnight.
You need to be signed in and to have accepted the current Terms and Privacy Policy. Eggs never show in the demo.
Find them yourself
Eggs are for players finding them by hand. Scripts, auto-clickers and other automation aren't allowed.
- A click on an egg that comes from code rather than your mouse, finger or keyboard, or a find faster than a person could manage, is refused. You see the same That egg got away message as when an egg slips away, and the egg goes back for someone else.
- Each refused find, and each flood of page loads, is recorded. Three in one TCT day close the hunt to you until the event ends. The strip under the top bar then says Egg hunt: barred and until when.
- Torning can also void eggs won this way, including taking back hours you already used.
Eggs already in your inventory stay yours while you are barred, unless Torning voids them.
Your inventory
Every egg you find goes into Account › Inventory and waits there. Stored eggs never expire, so an egg found overnight isn't wasted while you sleep.
- The card that opens when you find an egg offers Use now or Keep for later.
- On Account › Inventory, each stored egg shows its prize and when you found it. Select Use to see how long your membership would run, then Use it to add the hours.
- Used eggs, and any Torning voided, are listed below your stored ones.
Your inventory is deleted with your account.
What an egg gives
Every egg has a rarity, but nothing on the page gives it away. When you collect an egg, the card that appears opens it and then shows its rarity and prize. The four common rarities give Pro hours and the two rarest give Ultra hours. These are the usual prizes; the card always shows what your egg really gives:
| Rarity | Usual prize |
|---|---|
| Common | 1 hour of Pro |
| Uncommon | 3 hours of Pro |
| Rare | 6 hours of Pro |
| Epic | 12 hours of Pro |
| Ultra | 6 hours of Ultra |
| Gold | 24 hours of Ultra |
The hours are added when you use the egg, and Torning tells you when your membership now runs until. Egg time adds to any time you already hold, Pro from an egg pauses while Ultra runs, and Ultra from an egg unlocks your faction's modules while you are in its leadership, just like paid time.
Eggs have no cash or in-game value and can't be traded. Torning may change the prizes or the number of eggs.
