Ranked wars and chains
How to follow a ranked war on Torning, set up its terms and payout as a leader, sync personal targets, call targets on the enemy roster, and run your faction's chains with bonus-hit bookings and a chain watch sheet.
Who can see what
Ranked wars and Chain live under War in the menu. Both belong to your faction, so they stay locked until a leader or co-leader has activated the faction on Torning. Personal targets are available to every player.
| Page | What it needs |
|---|---|
| War › Ranked wars and each war's page | The Ranked wars module switched on, and the View wars permission for your position (leaders always have it) |
| War setup | The Manage wars permission. Anyone else who opens it is sent to the read-only war page. |
| Enemy roster pop-out | The same as Ranked wars |
| War › Targets | A Limited Access or Full Access API key on file. Every signed-in player can use it, with or without an active faction. |
| War › Chain | The Chains module switched on. Every member can view it, book bonus hits and take watch slots. Forecast settings, scheduling chains and editing watch sheets need Manage chains. |
Leaders set modules and position permissions on Faction › Settings › Manage.
The war list
War › Ranked wars opens with a scoreboard for the war that matters most right now: the upcoming or live war if there is one, otherwise the war that finished most recently. Below it is a table of every ranked war your faction has on file.
- Each row shows both scores, the lead target, how long ago it ran and whether it was Termed or a Real War.
- Filter by Status (Active, Won, Lost) or Type (Real War, Termed).
- Click a row to open that war's page.
If you have Manage wars, the scoreboard has a Configure link (it reads Setup once every part of the war's setup is locked) that takes you to war setup.
The war page
Each war has its own read-only page. What it shows depends on where the war is: Pending (announced), Preparing (a leader has pressed Start Preparing), Warring, then Won, Lost or Finished.
Scoreboard
Before the war starts you get a countdown and a head-to-head comparison of the two factions. Once it starts you see both scores, each side's progress toward the target and how much each still needs to win. During a live war a forecast strip estimates when it ends and who wins. Under the scoreboard, Payout setup shows whether terms are still pending, termed or a real war; once the payout setup is locked you can open it to see the agreed split, the pool and the scoring weights.
Panels
| Panel | When it shows | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Current watchers | While a chain watch sheet covers the war | Who is on chain watch this hour, with a link to the sheet |
| War timeline | Once there are scores | Both scores and the target across the war |
| Energy pool | Until the war finishes | The energy your members are sitting on, how many hits it buys and how many are off drug cooldown. Only members whose status Torning reads recently are counted. |
| War Rollcall | When a rollcall exists (managers always see it) | Who is in for the war. See below. |
| Member Readiness | Preparing and during the war, and after it while a chain is still running | Your roster with energy, revivable status and drug, medical and booster cooldowns |
| Opponent Scouting | Pending, preparing and during the war | The enemy's activity by hour, a recommended strike window, a peak danger window, current presence and their key threats |
| War activity | When the opponent is known | Both factions' online counts compared hour by hour. Needs Ultra in your faction's leadership. |
| Enemy Players | Pending, preparing and during the war | The enemy roster with battle stats, status, revivable, Dibs and Terms claims and attack links |
| War summary | After the war, once Torn's report is in | Both sides' results and rewards |
| Member Performance | Live during the war. After it, only once the payout setup is locked (or while a chain is still running). | Each member's attacks, losses, points and payout |
| Participation | After the war, once Torn's member report is in | Torn's attack and score counts per member beside Torning's scored attacks and their rollcall answer |
| Attacks | Once a manager has locked the attacks | Every attack with its matchup, respect, score and modifiers |
Opening a war page asks Torn for fresh attacks and chains straight away, so you do not wait for the next scheduled sync. The enemy roster can take a few seconds to appear the first time; the page fills it in as soon as it lands.
Old wars
Older finished wars are not synced automatically. They show a Not synced card with a Sync button. Syncing an old war needs Manage wars, Ultra in your faction's leadership and a Faction API key on file.
War rollcalls
A rollcall asks members whether they are in for the war. It sits on the war page.
Answering one
- Press I'm In or Unavailable. Your badge changes to Confirmed In, Unavailable or Response Needed.
- Use Add Note to tell leaders something like when you are free or whether you have a booster stack ready.
- You can also answer from Discord with
/war rollcall, or with the buttons on a rollcall card if your leaders posted one.
Running one (Manage wars)
- Press Start Rollcall, give it a title and optional instructions. These show to members as a Leader Announcement.
- If your faction has the Discord bot set up, tick Broadcast to Discord channel and choose a channel, or use Send to Discord later. Members can answer with the card's buttons.
- Watch the summary bar (In, Unavailable, Pending) and filter the member list by answer. Each row shows the member's note, when they answered and their readiness.
- Use Set on a row to record someone's answer for them.
- From the menu, Close Rollcall stops new answers, Reopen Rollcall opens it again and Edit Announcement changes the text.
War setup
War setup is the leaders' workspace for one war. Open it from the war page with War setup, or from the scoreboard's Configure link. It needs Manage wars, and becomes read-only once the payout is finalised.
The page is split into War summary (after the war), War Terms, Payout Setup, Member Performance and Attacks. Warnings appear at the top: a Blocking warning must be fixed before attacks can be locked, a Review warning is worth checking. While nothing is locked, the reset button puts every weight, adjustment and setting back to its default.
1. Agree the terms
- Pick Real or Termed.
- For a termed war, choose the Agreed winner and drag the Split agreement slider (in steps of 5%) to set how the rewards are shared.
- If the opponent faction is also on Torning, you can tick Share battle stats with opposition. Both factions then see each other's member battle stats for the war, but only for members whose own visibility setting allows it.
- When the opponent is on Torning, press Send proposal. Their leaders see it on their own setup page. You can Update proposal or Cancel proposal while you wait.
- When the other side sends you a proposal, its values fill the form. Press Accept or Decline, or change anything and press Counter proposal.
Once terms are accepted, either side can Break terms until the settlement is locked. The other faction then sees who cancelled and can send a fresh proposal.
2. Settle a termed war
After a termed war, the Settlement box works out which faction keeps which caches and how much balancing cash changes hands.
- Auto-settle redistributes caches to keep the cash transfer as small as possible. Swap caches swaps which faction holds which caches.
- Click a line total or a faction's total to enter what the caches actually sold for; per-cache prices adjust to match. Sync prices reads your bazaar and item-market sales since the war ended.
- You can move single caches between factions and edit the balancing cash (a negative value means this faction pays).
- Lock settlement fixes the trade plan. This also freezes the war terms. Unlock reopens it if the agreement changes.
For a real war, the Settlement box lists your own caches; you can set what they sold for in the same way.
3. Payout setup
- Faction Cut: the percentage the faction keeps before paying members (slider in steps of 5%).
- Income and Expenses appear once the war has ended. Income is the cash going into the payout (usually your caches' value, or your share of a termed settlement); expenses are costs the faction paid first. The Net Pot shows what is left to distribute.
4. Weights and modifiers
Every scored attack earns points, and the pool is split in proportion to points.
- Bases: Attack is the starting points for any winning hit. Assist and Loss stand alone with nothing stacked on them; Loss can be negative to penalise wasted hits.
- Multipliers (Leave, Mug, Hosp, Retal, Overseas) are added on top of the Attack base when that condition applies.
- Chain Bonuses: tick a synced chain to give hits made during it their own bases and multipliers on top of the war weights.
- Chain Watch (when the Chains module is on): tick Score chain watch hours to pay members for hours they held on the war's watch sheet. Set Points per main hour, the Second watcher divisor and an optional Min. online % per hour. Points are (main hours + second hours ÷ divisor) × points per main hour, rounded up.
5. Check members and attacks
- In Member Performance, use the adjust button on a row to give a member a flat ($), percentage or points adjustment with a reason.
- Faction Xanax and refills a member used since Start Preparing fill in on their row as an Auto adjustment, charged at the current market price. Open the adjust button to change it (your adjustment replaces it), press Waive deduction to drop it, or Restore deduction to bring a waived one back. Nothing fills in if the war never started preparing.
- In Attacks, filter by chain or by flags (ranked war only, assists, retaliations, overseas). You can exclude an attack from scoring, switch off a single modifier on it (RW, Chain, Retal, OS) or add a note.
6. Start preparing
Before the war, press Start Preparing. The war moves from Pending to Preparing, Member Readiness appears on the war page, and Torning starts gathering members' stats for the prep window. Some factions skip this; the war still runs without it, but faction Xanax and refills are only charged from this point.
7. Finalise the payout
After the war, press Finalise payout and confirm. This locks the payout setup and the attacks, records each member's payout and makes the setup read-only. Members can then see Member Performance and Attacks on the war page. If your faction uses Accounting, a progress bar tracks the payouts as you add them to members' faction balances in Torn.
Enemy roster and claims
The Enemy Players table on the war page lists every member of the opposing faction from the moment the war is announced until it ends.
- Battle stats come from your faction's spies and members who share theirs, with an Est. column from estimates. In a termed war with shared stats, opponents who allow it show their real stats.
- Available shows their Torn status; filter by Okay, Soon or Not OK, by level or by total stats.
- Star a target to keep your own shortlist. Stars are private to you; the Starred filter shows only yours.
- Dibs: press Call to claim a target so others leave it to you.
- Terms: press Terms and pick 5m, 15m, 30m or 60m to hold a target for a set time. A countdown shows how long is left.
- The attack link opens Torn's attack page. It is dimmed when someone else has claimed that target.
You can release your own claims. Faction leaders can release anyone's.
Opening it in its own tab
Press Enemies pop-out at the top of the war page (or the external-link button on the Enemy Players table) to open a stripped-down roster in a new browser tab. It has a thin header with the score, a Back to war button and a theme switch, and shows the whole roster on one page. It is handy to keep beside Torn while you hit.
On Discord, /war targets and /war roster give a quick view of the same war.
Personal war targets
The War › Targets page gives you a personal battle board of all your saved targets in Torn, formatted in the same style as the war enemy roster.
Syncing your targets
- Press Sync targets in the top-right header to pull your current targets list from Torn.
- Syncing requires a Limited Access or Full Access API key. Every signed-in player can use it, with or without an active faction.
- Torning updates player names and personal notes from Torn, cleans up any targets you deleted, and queues unknown profiles for background caching.
Board layout and intel
- Stars: Toggle the star on any target to mark key players and keep them pinned at the top.
- Battle stats: View spy stats (Strength, Defense, Speed, Dexterity, Total) from your personal spies or shared faction spies.
- YATA Estimate: Shows estimated total battle stats when no spy report is on file.
- Availability: Real-time status indicators with hospital and jail release countdown timers.
- Personal notes: Displays the notes you wrote on each target in Torn.
- Attack link: Direct link to open an attack on Torn without navigating through profiles.
The chain page
War › Chain follows your faction's chain. The live part of the page refreshes every 30 seconds while it is open.
Live chain
The chain card shows whether a chain is running, its count, the time before it lapses, the next target and the modifier. Between chains it shows the cooldown. If a watch sheet covers the current hour, a card above it shows who is on watch.
Forecast
While a chain runs, the forecast card shows hits toward the target (with the next bonus marked), your pace in hits per minute and per hour, and when the chain should reach the target. If a deadline is set, it shows On pace or Behind, and whether your members' energy runs dry first. With Ultra and enough activity history, the forecast is Activity adjusted and compares how many of your members and the enemy's are likely to be online over the next three hours.
Chain managers set the forecast with Forecast at the top of the page:
- Target chain: a bonus hit (10 up to 100,000) or Chain max.
- Pace from the last: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours or 4 hours.
- Reach it by: an optional deadline, read in whichever clock (TCT or Local) you have on.
- Options to Scale pace to members online, Count unused energy refills and Count a Xanax from members off drug cooldown.
An Energy pool card sits beside the forecast while a chain runs or a watch sheet is coming up.
Recent hits, contributions and history
- Recent hits: each hit with attacker, defender, result, respect and time.
- Contributions: hits, share, respect and bonus hits per member for the chain you are looking at.
- Chain history: your past chains with length, respect, the war they belonged to, when they started and how long they ran. Pick one to load its hits and contributions; Back to latest chain returns to the current one.
Booking bonus hits
While a chain is running, the Bonus hits card lists the next four bonus hits, how far away each is and who holds it.
- Press Book to take an open bonus hit. One person can hold each.
- Press Release to give yours back. Chain managers can release anyone's booking.
- If your faction's Discord has the bonus-hit alert switched on, the holder is pinged as the chain gets close to their number.
You can do the same from Discord with /chain book and /chain release, and check the chain with /chain status.
The chain watch sheet
A watch sheet is an hour-by-hour rota of who keeps an eye on the chain timer. Each hour has two slots: Main watcher and Second watcher.
Where sheets come from
- When a ranked war starts, Torning opens a sheet for it called War vs the opponent, running from the war's start until it ends (longer if a chain carries on past it).
- Chain managers can schedule their own with Schedule chain.
If your faction has more than one sheet, pick it from the list beside Chain watch.
Taking a slot
- Press Take in an empty slot. You cannot be both the main and second watcher for the same hour, or watch the same hour on two open sheets.
- Release your slot with the cross before its hour starts.
- Once an hour is under way or over, each held slot shows the share of that hour the watcher was online.
- The sheet shows 12 hours at a time. Use Prev 12h and Next 12h, View all, or Jump to current hour. The header shows how many hours have a main watcher.
For chain managers
- Use the plus button in a slot to assign a member.
- 12h adds another 12 hours to the end of the sheet.
- Edit sheet times sets a custom start or end. You can reset either back to the war's own times.
- Close sheet ends it now. Slots that have started are kept and scored; future slots are cleared.
Watch points
When a sheet belongs to a war whose setup has Score chain watch hours switched on, a Watch points table appears under it. It lists each member's main hours, second hours, online share and points.
- An hour counts once it has started, and a live hour counts in full, so points only go up while the war runs.
- If a minimum online percentage is set, a finished hour where the watcher was online for less than that scores nothing. An hour with too few readings to judge still counts.
- Watch points are added to each member's war payout points.
Scheduling a chain
Chain managers can plan a chain outside a war so members can sign up ahead of time.
- On War › Chain, press Schedule chain.
- Give it a title (up to 80 characters; it defaults to Chain Watch).
- Pick a Start and End. Times are read in whichever clock you have on in the top bar (TCT or Local). The start rounds down and the end rounds up to the hour.
- Press Schedule. The sheet opens with empty slots for every hour.
A sheet can cover at most 14 days, has to end after it starts, and cannot be entirely in the past.
