War intel and spies

by liharris30 ultra faction spies intel war

How to keep your spy reports on Torning, share them with your faction, and use War intel to study when a faction is online and who should fight whom.

Where intel lives

Everything here sits under War › Intel, which has three tabs.

Tab What it is Who can use it
My spies Your personal stash of spy reports Anyone signed in, with or without a faction
Faction spies Your faction's shared spy table Members of a faction activated on Torning
War intel Activity and battle-stat comparisons for any faction you track Members of an activated faction while one of its leaders has Ultra

Pasting a spy report

  1. Spy on someone in Torn and copy the result block.
  2. On War › Intel › My spies (or Faction spies), press Paste spy.
  3. Paste the text and press Save spy.

Torning reads the block line by line. It needs a Name: PlayerName [123456] line with the player's ID in brackets, and picks up these lines when they are there:

  • Level:
  • Strength:, Defense:, Speed:, Dexterity: and Total: (commas are fine)

Money on hand and potential mug lines are ignored. Torning checks the player ID with Torn before saving, and rejects a paste it cannot find a name and ID in. Saving a newer spy on someone you already have replaces your earlier one.

You can save up to 30 pastes a minute.

CSV import and export

Importing

Press Import CSV and choose a file (CSV or plain text, up to 2 MB). The first row must be a header with these columns:

Name, Level, Faction, Strength, Defense, Speed, Dexterity, Total, Last Update

  • The Name column must include the bracketed ID, for example Chedburn [1]. Rows without one are skipped.
  • Column names are not case sensitive, and extra columns are ignored.
  • Last Update is read as day/month/year (for example 25/09/26) and becomes the capture date.

The import runs in the background. Players Torning already knows appear straight away; new ones follow as Torn confirms them. You can import up to five files a minute.

Exporting

Once you have spies saved, Export CSV downloads them in the same column layout, so a file you export can be imported again elsewhere.

Reading the spies table

  • Each row is a target with their level, faction and five stats.
  • Stats are coloured against your own battle stats when Torning has them: the further a stat is above yours, the hotter the colour. A missing stat shows N/A.
  • The clock icon shows how old the capture is, from fresh (under two weeks) to stale (over four months). Hover or tap it for the exact date.
  • The bin icon deletes every capture you hold on that target.

History per target

Click a row to open Spy history. It lists the captures on file for that player, newest first, marked Pasted or CSV, with each capture's stat mix. When there is more than one capture, a small chart shows how their total has moved.

Sharing with your faction

Your spies on My spies are private by default. If you are in a faction, the button at the top of the page shows Private from or Sharing with and your faction's name. Press it to switch.

While sharing is on, your captures appear on your faction's Faction spies tab and feed the battle stats your faction sees on the war page and in War intel. Switch it off and they go back to being yours alone.

The faction spies table

War › Intel › Faction spies combines two sources: spies saved directly to the faction, and spies members share from their own stash.

  • Paste spy and Import CSV here save to the faction, in the same formats as above. Any member can add them.
  • The View filter switches between all spies (the latest capture of each target, whoever made it), Faction (the faction's own) and Shared (each member's latest capture as its own row).
  • Click a row for the target's history across the faction's and members' captures.
  • Export CSV downloads the table.
  • Only the faction's leader and co-leader can delete faction-owned spies. A shared spy can only be deleted by the member it belongs to.

On Discord, /spy user looks up a player's spy and /spy compare sets it against your own stats.

War intel access

War › Intel › War intel is an Ultra feature. It unlocks for your whole faction while anyone in your faction's leadership has a live Ultra membership; members do not need their own. Without it, the page shows what it would unlock.

Torning samples who is online every five minutes for your own faction (while a leader has Ultra), for your ranked war opponents, and for any faction you track. Charts appear after the first sample.

Picking and watching factions

The Tracked factions card lists the factions you can look at. Click one to switch the whole page to it.

  • Yours: your own faction is always there.
  • Ranked war: the opponent in any active ranked war is added automatically.
  • Factions your leaders have chosen to watch.

Use the range menu to look at the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.

Adding a faction (Manage intel)

  1. Press Track faction.
  2. Type the Torn faction ID or paste a link to its faction profile, then press Find.
  3. Check it is the right faction and press Track. The first sample lands within five minutes.

You can watch up to five factions at a time. To stop watching one, use the remove button on its pill. Adding and removing needs the Manage intel permission or a leader position.

Online over time

The online over time card for the selected faction shows:

  • Online now, the Busiest hour and Quietest hour, the Busiest day and Quietest day, and how many samples the range holds.
  • A chart of how many members were online across the range.

Hours are shown in whichever clock you have on in the top bar (TCT or Local).

Weekly pattern

A heatmap of day against hour, so you can see at a glance when the faction is usually around and when it is not.

Members

Below the charts, a searchable, sortable table shows each member's activity for the range, with their known battle stats.

Your own faction

When your own faction is selected you get two extra cards:

  • Thin windows: the hours with the fewest of your members online, where a chain could drop or an attack could go unanswered.
  • Gone quiet: members who have not been seen for a few days, or who are online far less than in the period before.

Members with Manage intel also see a Roster history and a Member intel table with activity and combat figures per member, and a scorecard for each.

Comparing against another faction

When you select another faction, the page compares it with yours.

Us vs them

Both factions' activity side by side, with Strike windows (hours you outnumber them), Danger windows (hours they outnumber you) and an Advantage by day and hour grid. This needs samples for your own faction in the same range.

Recent wars

The selected faction's last three ranked wars with their scores and a link to Torn's report.

Battle stats

Both factions' known battle-stat totals, how many members on each side have known stats, and the Average and median by tier (top end, mid section and bottom of each roster). Each figure is marked by where it came from: real stats, shared by the player, from a spy, or a YATA estimate. A member whose visibility setting hides their stats shows as Hidden.

Who should fight who

For each of their members with known stats, strongest first, up to three of your members who beat them by at least 10% on total stats. It prefers members who are online at the same times as you, then the closest match, so your heaviest hitters stay free for the biggest targets. It also shows when the target is usually offline. No safe hitter means nobody on your side is strong enough.

History backfill from TAT

New factions start with no history. Leaders can fill in up to 30 days of activity for every faction you track, once, from Torn Activity Tracker (TAT).

  1. Make sure you have added your own Faction API key to Torning. Only the key you gave is ever shared.
  2. On War intel, switch on Backfill history from Torn Activity Tracker in the History backfill card and confirm.
  3. Your key is lent to TAT while the backfill runs, then removed. The card shows the progress for each tracked faction.

If a faction comes back with no history, use Retry to queue it again rather than waiting for the daily retry. Switch the toggle off at any time to stop sharing.

Only faction leadership (the leader, co-leader, and positions given the Leader toggle) can turn this on or off. The card only appears while the TAT backfill is available.
