Your account, API keys and privacy

by liharris30 api-key account privacy data

How to manage your API keys and feature permissions, see what Torning calls with your key, export your data and delete your account.

The Account pages

Open the account menu (your name at the bottom of the side rail, or More on a phone). The Account area has four pages:

  • Account › Data sharing: your API keys, the features you have granted and the calls Torning makes.
  • Account › Key usage: how fast Torning uses your key, and a cap you can set.
  • Account › Discord: linking your Discord account, personal reminders and watches. It has its own guide.
  • Account › Privacy & data: what Torning holds about you, data export and account deletion.

Your API keys

The Your API keys card on Account › Data sharing lists every key on your account. Each one shows only its last four characters, when it was added and last used, and its access level (Limited Access or Full Access).

Adding a key

  1. Create the key in Torn's API settings.
  2. Paste it into the Another 16-character key box.
  3. Click Add key.
  • The key must belong to your own Torn account.
  • It must be Limited Access or Full Access.
  • You can hold up to 5 keys. The form disappears once you have 5.
  • You can try 5 keys in 10 minutes. After that, wait a few minutes.

A second key does not give Torning more calls: Torn limits calls per player, not per key. It is useful for keeping a Limited key beside a Full Access one, or for swapping to a new key without a gap.

Removing a key

Click Remove next to the key and confirm. You cannot remove your only key, so add the new one first. If a key carried faction API access, Torning's faction copy of that key is removed with it.

If you delete a key in Torn, Torning drops it the next time it tries to use it. If you have no working key left, you are signed out.

Granted features

The Granted features card on Account › Data sharing lists each feature permission you have granted and when. Features are granted on their own pages; this list is where you take them back.

  1. Click Revoke next to the feature.
  2. Confirm with Revoke access.

Torning stops pulling that data from the next sync. What it already collected is kept. To turn the feature on again, visit its page and grant it again.

If you grant and revoke many times in a row, Torning asks you to wait a moment before trying again.

API call counts

The top of Account › Data sharing counts every call Torning has made with your key:

CardWhat it counts
Total API callsEvery call, across your own features and shared community pulls.
Calls for youCalls that fed your own granted features. The results stay with your account.
Calls for the communityCalls for public Torn data, such as items, factions and stocks, shared across all users. These never touch your personal data.

Below that, the API Requests chart shows your calls over time, and Recent calls lists your last 25 calls. Each one is labelled with the feature it served, or Shared for community pulls.

Key usage and your limit

Torn allows 100 calls a minute per player, across every tool you use. Account › Key usage lets you keep some of that for other tools.

Request limit

  • The dial shows how many calls Torning made in the last minute against your limit. It updates every 15 seconds.
  • Next call shows when Torning can make its next call if you are at your limit.
  • To change the cap, type a whole number from 10 to 100 into Calls per minute and click Save. The default is 90. The new limit applies to the very next call.
  • While Torn Activity Tracker is backfilling history with your key, the calls it makes are set aside from your limit and shown as TAT backfill.

A lower limit means some syncs wait longer. The lowest you can set is 10, so Torning can still keep your bars and status up to date.

By feature

The Last 24 hours card ranks the features that used your key in the past day, with the number of calls each made.

What we read

Open What we read for the full list of reasons Torning may call Torn with your key, grouped by area, each with a short description.

What Torning holds about you

The top card on Account › Privacy & data counts the records Torning holds about you in each category: Account & access, Consents & keys, Your Torn snapshot, Insights & history, Discord, Content you made, Your faction's records about you, Things you did for your faction, and Technical.

Each row has an info button explaining what it covers, why Torning holds it, how long it is kept and what deleting your account does to it. The counts are refreshed every 10 minutes; click Recount to count again now.

The Policies card at the bottom shows which versions of the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy you accepted, and when.

This page stays open to you even if you have not accepted updated policies, so you can always export or delete your data.

Exporting your data

You can download a zip of every record Torning holds about your account.

  1. On Account › Privacy & data, find Export your data.
  2. Choose a Zip password of at least 12 characters and type it again under Repeat password.
  3. Click Request export.
  4. Wait while the steps move from Requested to Building to Ready. Larger accounts take a few minutes. The page checks for you, and Torning also tells you on Discord if your account is linked.
  5. Click Download zip.
  • Torning never stores your zip password and cannot recover it.
  • The zip is AES-256 encrypted. Windows Explorer and the macOS Archive Utility cannot open it and will say the password is wrong. Use 7-Zip, WinRAR, The Unarchiver or unzip 6.1 or newer.
  • Start with index.html inside the zip.
  • The download is kept for 7 days, then deleted. A bar shows how long it has left.
  • You can request one export a day: a new one opens 24 hours after the last one finished.

Deleting your account

The Delete your account card on Account › Privacy & data schedules your account for deletion after a 7-day grace period. From the moment you ask, Torning stops using your API key: no calls, no alerts and no syncs.

  1. If you want a copy of your data, request an export first.
  2. Click Delete my account.
  3. Type your Torn ID to confirm, then click Delete my account again.

Things that block deletion

Some things your faction depends on would disappear with your account, so they have to be dealt with first. Each one shows as a warning with an Open button where there is a page to fix it, and the delete button stays disabled until they are cleared.

BlockerHow to clear it
You activated your faction on TorningDeactivate the faction, or have another leader re-activate it first.
You linked a Discord serverHave another Discord manager link the server again, or remove the bot from it.
A giveaway you created is still running or waiting for its delivery logLet it finish, or cancel it from Discord.

What is erased and what is kept

  • Erased: everything under Account & access, Consents & keys, Your Torn snapshot, Insights & history, Discord, Content you made and Technical, apart from your public Torn profile.
  • Kept: records your faction keeps about you (attacks, contributions, armoury and ledger entries) stay until the faction's data is wiped 30 days after the faction is deactivated on Torning, or until you ask for them to be removed.
  • Kept: actions you took as a leader stay in your faction's books with your account reference blanked.
  • Kept: a record that your Torn player has had the free welcome trial, so signing up again does not start another.

Changing your mind

During the 7-day grace period, signing in takes you to a Deletion scheduled screen with a countdown to when your account is erased. From there you can:

  • Keep my account: cancels the deletion and turns everything back on.
  • Export my data first: opens Account › Privacy & data so you can download a copy.
  • Sign out.

The Delete your account card on Account › Privacy & data also shows the countdown and its own Keep my account button.
